Real Madrid midfielder Arda Güler has offered a surprisingly respectful and positive assessment of his former coach, Carlo Ancelotti, despite the Turkish sensation spending his first two seasons largely on the bench under the Italian’s tenure.
Güler’s significant lack of playing time led to widespread media speculation about a strained relationship and a potential exit from the Spanish capital, especially given Ancelotti’s reputation for often prioritizing experienced players over developing youth.
However, in a recent interview with L’Équipe, Güler dismissed any notion of resentment, reflecting a mature and ambitious mentality that fans may not have anticipated.
Speaking about his challenging start at the club, Güler stated: “Carlo is one of the best coaches in history. We mustn’t forget that he told the press that I would be one of the best midfielders in the world.
Davide always tried to help me. I’m grateful. When I wasn’t playing, it was tough, but it fuelled my ambition: I waited for my moment.”
The midfielder’s career has since flourished under current manager Xabi Alonso, but his comments highlight a supreme level of professionalism in reflecting on his initial struggles at the club.
