Saliba doubtful for Wolves, Arteta explains ankle setback

William Saliba remains a doubt for Arsenal’s match against Wolves as manager Mikel Arteta revealed the defender’s current issue stems from an ankle injury that forced him to modify his running, though he is expected to return for the Everton match.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta provided a detailed update on William Saliba’s injury setback, confirming the defender remains highly doubtful for Saturday’s Premier League match against Wolves.

Saliba has missed the last four games, forcing the Gunners to cope with repeated defensive shuffles during a crucial period of the season.

The club hopes to have him back soon, but he has not yet returned to full team training sessions.

Arteta clarified that the current issue originated from an older ankle injury sustained earlier in the campaign.

“It was something quite small. It came from an ankle injury he had and then he started to modify the way he was running and all that, and he started to overload an area, which is something common,” the manager explained.

This discomfort ultimately required Saliba to stop training and playing entirely.

While Saliba’s immediate involvement against Wolves is uncertain, Arteta expressed optimism for the following fixture.

“If you ask me for the Everton game, I think he will be fit; for tomorrow, I don’t know,” Arteta stated on Friday.

The manager added caution, confirming, “We have to wait and see. Yesterday we didn’t train,” as the club awaits his recovery ahead of the busy festive schedule.
