Nicolas Jackson clarifies January Chelsea return speculation

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has decided against cutting short his season-long loan at Bayern Munich and is settled at the German club, despite a dramatic summer transfer saga involving the Blues attempting to pull the plug on the deal.

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has no plans to cut short his season-long loan at Bayern Munich and intends to remain in Bavaria ahead of the January transfer window, according to a report from The Standard.

The 24-year-old Senegal international was the subject of a dramatic back-and-forth transfer saga over the summer.

Jackson had only just landed in Munich in late August ahead of a £13million loan move, with an option to buy, when Chelsea informed him they planned to pull the plug following an injury to Liam Delap, which left Joao Pedro as the club’s only fit striker.

Jackson, who joined Chelsea from Villareal in June 2023 and scored 30 goals in 81 games for the Blues, insisted on resurrecting the deal.

His agent, Ali Barat, publicly denounced the “deeply frustrating” situation and promised to “fight with everything I have.”

Marc Guiu was eventually recalled from his Sunderland loan instead, allowing Jackson to remain in Munich on a £14.3m season-long loan with a conditional obligation to buy for £56.3m should he start 40 games.

Jackson is understood to be settled at Bayern, where he has scored three goals in 12 appearances to date, often playing as centre-forward with England captain Harry Kane as a No10 just behind him.

Speaking at his unveiling in September, Jackson confirmed his desire to stay:

“It was tough; a tough time. Difficult moments in those last days. But I was very confident I will stay here because this is where I want to play and want to be. It was very tough but in the end we got it, so I’m very glad.”

He has no wish to pursue a permanent exit from Chelsea during the January transfer window.
