Setback: Max Dowman ruled out with ankle injury

Arsenal confirmed that teenage prospect Max Dowman will be out for “weeks” with an ankle injury, prompting the club to register Gabriel Jesus in the Champions League squad as the Brazilian makes an earlier-than-expected return from a knee injury.

Arsenal’s teenage star Max Dowman is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury during an Under-21 friendly against Manchester United last weekend.

Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed the news following scans, stating the 15-year-old will be “out for weeks,” but suggested the setback is “part of the journey.”

Dowman’s injury allowed Arsenal to add forward Gabriel Jesus to their Champions League squad.

Jesus, recovering ahead of schedule from knee surgery, has been “pushing every single day,” according to Arteta, and could make his first-team comeback in the competition as a direct replacement for the sidelined youngster.
