“We are very disappointed but we have to go again.”
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admitted frustration after his side dropped crucial points in a 2-2 draw against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, according to NBC Sports.
Dan Ballard’s stunning first-half goal handed the newly promoted Black Cats a surprise lead over the Premier League leaders. Arsenal fought back strongly after the break, with Bukayo Saka capitalizing on a rare defensive lapse to equalize. Leandro Trossard’s clinical finish then put the visitors ahead, seemingly steering them toward a ninth league victory of the season.
However, Sunderland refused to give in as Brian Brobbey’s stoppage-time strike salvaged a dramatic point for the hosts, extending their unbeaten home run.
Reflecting on the contest, Arteta said, “Really tough test. We knew that, the way they set up. They make it very difficult for you. At the end, very unfortunate we conceded a goal.” He lamented the nature of the goals conceded, adding, “They are two direct balls, two flicks, the same action. But credit to the opposition. They have Ballard. They create those moments.”
Arteta also pointed to the squad’s injury troubles, noting, “We have seven injured players across the front line. We are very limited but that’s the season.”
Despite the disappointment, the Spaniard praised his side’s response. “I love the way the team reacted to score the two goals and go ahead,” he said. “We are very disappointed but we have to go again.”
