Aston Villa have opened talks to re-sign Tammy Abraham from Roma to provide depth and competition for Ollie Watkins as Unai Emery’s side pushes for the Premier League title.
Aston Villa have initiated discussions to bring Tammy Abraham back to the Premier League as manager Unai Emery seeks to strengthen his attack.
The 28-year-old striker, currently on loan at Besiktas from AS Roma, has emerged as a primary target for the January window.
Villa are reportedly exploring his availability to provide competition for Ollie Watkins, whose goal tally stands at seven in 28 appearances this season as the club maintains a title challenge.
The move carries significant sentimental and strategic weight, as Abraham previously enjoyed a stellar 2018-19 loan spell at Villa Park.
During that campaign, he scored 26 goals in 40 matches, playing a pivotal role in securing the club’s promotion.
Currently rebuilding his form after a serious knee injury, Abraham has registered 12 goals in 24 total appearances for Besiktas this term. Roma is believed to be open to a permanent or structural solution for the forward.
Emery is determined to add a “different dimension” to his frontline with Abraham’s physical presence and proven English football pedigree.
The striker is reportedly keen on returning to the club where he previously thrived. However, any potential deal remains subject to complex negotiations between Villa, Roma, and Besiktas regarding the termination of his current loan and financial terms.
Villa remains ambitious in the market to ensure they have sufficient firepower to compete with Arsenal and Manchester City.
