Atletico Madrid complained to Arsenal after a hot water failure forced players to skip showers following training at the Emirates.
Atletico Madrid have lodged a complaint to Arsenal after their players were unable to access hot water in the dressing room at the Emirates Stadium following a training session on Monday.
Diego Simeone’s side trained in the rain ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League group-stage clash, but the team reportedly had to return to their hotel without showering as the hot water issue persisted for over an hour. Sources at the Spanish club said the problem affected both dressing rooms and claimed it went unfixed for some time, prompting Atletico to cut short their session.
According to reports, Arsenal were informed of the situation and resolved the issue within 40 minutes of being alerted, but Atletico had already decided to leave. The Premier League club has since apologised to their La Liga counterparts for the inconvenience.
UEFA’s stadium infrastructure regulations require teams to have access to hot showers in dressing rooms, though the rule only applies to official competition matches, not training sessions.
Atletico are set to face Arsenal at the Emirates on Tuesday night in the Champions League league phase. The Gunners currently sit fifth in the table after back-to-back wins over Olympiacos and Athletic Club, while Simeone’s side are 10th, having defeated Eintracht Frankfurt but lost to Liverpool.
UEFA have been contacted for comment regarding the incident.
