Atletico Madrid has bolstered its squad by securing the services of Italian striker Giacomo Raspadori from Napoli. The 25-year-old Raspadori, fresh off winning the Scudetto with Napoli, has signed a five-year contract with the La Liga side.
The transfer fee for Raspadori is reported to be around €26 million. This acquisition marks Atletico's tenth signing of this transfer window, signaling a significant overhaul of their squad. Raspadori is expected to add firepower to Diego Simeone's attacking options as Atletico aims for a stronger performance in the upcoming season.
Atletico Madrid's ambitions are high after a somewhat underwhelming 2024-25 campaign where they finished third in La Liga and were ousted from the Champions League in the round of 16. Their Copa del Rey journey also ended prematurely in the semi-finals, and they suffered an early exit at the Club World Cup, adding pressure for improvement.
Raspadori is the third player Atletico has signed from Serie A this transfer window, following the acquisitions of Atalanta's Matteo Ruggeri and Juan Musso. Last season, Raspadori scored six goals in 26 Serie A appearances for Napoli, a figure surpassed only by Romelu Lukaku (14) and Scott McTominay (12).
Known for his direct free-kick ability, Raspadori has scored two goals from nine attempts since the start of the 2022-23 season. In his time with Napoli, he scored 13 goals in 89 Serie A appearances, showcasing his knack for finding the net when given the opportunity.
On the international stage, Raspadori has represented Italy in 40 appearances since his debut in June 2021, scoring nine goals, making him the top scorer for the Azzurri during that period. He was also a member of Italy's Euro 2020 winning squad.
Atletico Madrid recently concluded their pre-season with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United. They are set to begin their 2025-26 La Liga season with an away game against Espanyol on August 17.
