Thomas Frank’s return to Brentford ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw as a blunt Tottenham attack struggled to threaten the hosts.
Thomas Frank endured a frustrating return to Brentford as Tottenham were held to a goalless draw at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The Dane, who managed the Bees for seven years before joining Spurs in the summer, received a warm pre-match reception from the home crowd.
However, the goodwill did not translate to the pitch, where a lackluster Tottenham failed to record a single shot on target until deep into second-half stoppage time.
Brentford looked the more dangerous side throughout the afternoon, having an early Kevin Schade goal ruled out for offside.
The hosts continued to create openings, with Jordan Henderson turning provider for Yehor Yarmolyuk and Igor Thiago, though both failed to convert golden opportunities.
Tottenham’s best chance of the first half fell to Richarlison, who skied a close-range effort at the far post following a deflected Archie Gray header.
The second half offered little improvement for the visitors, leading traveling supporters to chant “boring, boring Tottenham” as the game wound down.
Despite late pressure from Brentford and a tame Richarlison effort saved by Caoimhin Kelleher, neither side could find a breakthrough.
The result leaves Frank searching for answers as his side struggled to find any attacking rhythm against his former club in a largely forgettable New Year’s Day encounter.
