Axel Tuanzebe’s 100th-minute goal against Jamaica secured the Democratic Republic of Congo’s first FIFA World Cup qualification since 1974, sparking nationwide celebrations in Kinshasa.

The Democratic Republic of Congo ended a 52-year wait for World Cup qualification following a dramatic 1-0 victory over Jamaica in the play-off tournament.

Axel Tuanzebe became a national hero, scoring a decisive 100th-minute goal in extra-time at Estadio Guadalajara.

The historic win triggered massive celebrations across Kinshasa, marking the Leopards’ first appearance on the global stage since their 1974 debut as Zaire.

The Leopards will now join Colombia, Portugal, and Uzbekistan in Group K. Despite the euphoria, the team remains focused on improving their past tournament record.

“We’re happy, we’re really delighted. It was a difficult match today,” striker Cedric Bakambu stated.

Captain Chancel Mbemba added, “We’ll stay humble, keep our feet on the ground, and continue to work” as they prepare for the elite competition.
