Barcelona Goalkeeper Ter Stegen Weighs Winter Exit Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has yet to make a final decision on his future at the club, with a possible winter transfer no longer ruled out despite earlier reports suggesting otherwise.

According to sources close to the situation, the German international is considering his options carefully as he balances club commitments with his ambition to feature at the 2026 World Cup.

If he stays at Barcelona, Ter Stegen faces the risk of not playing at with Wojceich Szczesny already made the established second choice to Joan Garcia, under the leadership of Hansi Flick, sporting director Deco, and president Joan Laporta.

The 32-year-old remains under contract until 2028, and despite fitness issues earlier in the season, he is still regarded as one of Europe’s top-class goalkeepers.

A decision is expected before the January window as the player seeks clarity on his role, with regular playing time seen as essential to maintaining his position within Germany’s national team setup.
