Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has dismissed Uli Hoeneß’s scathing assessment of the officiating during the 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich, defending the game’s flow despite a controversial red card for Luis Díaz.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Simon Rolfes has hit back at Uli Hoeneß following the Bayern legend’s claim that officiating at the BayArena was the “worst” he had ever seen.
The match saw Nicolas Jackson and Luis Díaz sent off, with the latter’s second yellow for diving being particularly contentious. Rolfes countered, “I don’t understand his criticism and I don’t see it that way.”
Despite referee Christian Dingert admitting to the Díaz error, the DFB upheld the suspension, leaving Bayern frustrated as their lead atop the table shrunk to nine points.
While Hoeneß lambasted the performance, Rolfes maintained a more positive view of the high-stakes encounter, stating,
“Otherwise, the referee let the game flow; there was a good flow to the game. There were goalscoring chances and challenges.”
