Bayern Munich’s 16-game winning streak comes to an end against Union Berlin

BERLIN (AP) — Bayern Munich’s record-breaking start to the season came to a halt on Saturday as Union Berlin held the Bavarian giants to a 2-2 draw in the Bundesliga. Dutch defender Danilho Doekhi scored twice to secure a point for the home side, ending Bayern’s 16-game winning streak in all competitions.

Harry Kane rescued Bayern from defeat with a stoppage-time equalizer, preventing a shock loss and keeping Bayern just one win shy of matching their Bundesliga-record 10-game start from 2015.

Union Berlin dominated early. Ilyas Ansah thought he had scored on his 21st birthday, but VAR ruled the goal offside. The breakthrough came in the 27th minute when Janik Haberer’s low corner found Doekhi, who swept the ball past Manuel Neuer. Bayern responded in the 38th with Luis Díaz leveling after a sliding turn and burst past Haberer, finishing from a tight angle.

The second half saw Union remain competitive, frustrating Bayern’s stars. Doekhi struck again in the 83rd minute, prodding the ball past Neuer after stopping Kane’s clearance attempt with his thigh, sparking wild celebrations at Stadion An der Alten Försterei. Kane then salvaged a point in the third minute of stoppage time.

Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund drew 1-1 with Hamburger SV, Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer scoring in the seventh minute of stoppage time after Carney Chukwuemeka had given Dortmund the lead. Hoffenheim defeated Leipzig 3-1, and Bayer Leverkusen thrashed Heidenheim 6-0. Borussia Mönchengladbach faced Cologne in the Rhine derby later.
