Bundesliga on course for additional Champions League spot

Germany currently holds the second-highest UEFA coefficient for the 2025/26 season, potentially securing a fifth Champions League spot for the 2026/27 campaign.

The Bundesliga is locked in a tight race with Portugal to secure an additional UEFA Champions League qualifying spot for the 2026/27 season.

Under UEFA’s revamped format, the two top-performing leagues according to coefficient rankings receive an extra “European Performance Spot.”

Germany currently sits second with a score of 16.785, narrowly leading Portugal’s 16.600, while England commands a significant lead in first place.

League officials remain optimistic that deep runs by remaining clubs like Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich will solidify this advantage.

However, with the knockout stages just beginning, the ranking remains volatile.

As UEFA notes, “the more wins and further a league’s teams go in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, the higher that league climbs in the rankings.”
