CAF General Secretary resigns amid AFCON title crisis

Veron Mosengo-Omba has stepped down as CAF General Secretary following intense backlash over the organization’s decision to strip Senegal of their recent Africa Cup of Nations title and award it to Morocco.

Veron Mosengo-Omba has resigned as General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) amid a escalating leadership crisis.

His departure follows the controversial decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 AFCON title in favor of Morocco, a move currently under appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Mosengo-Omba, 66, also faced mounting pressure regarding his age and allegations of a toxic workplace.

While citing personal projects for his exit, reports suggest Mosengo-Omba intends to run for the presidency of the DR Congo football federation.

Defending his legacy, he stated: “Now that I have been able to dispel the suspicions that some people have gone to great lengths to cast on me, I can retire with peace of mind.”

Competitions director Samson Adamu will serve as acting head.
