CAF President Patrice Motsepe is traveling to Senegal for high-level talks aimed at resolving the unprecedented diplomatic and sporting crisis triggered by the controversial awarding of the 2025 AFCON title to Morocco.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe is set to arrive in Dakar for emergency meetings with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and federation chief Abdoulaye Fall.
The visit follows Senegal’s appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after Morocco was awarded the 2025 AFCON title “on paper.”
Motsepe aims to restore trust following Senegal’s withdrawal from the final under what they term “compelling circumstances.”
Senegal has signaled a diplomatic approach to the visit despite the ongoing legal battle. Abdoulaye Fall emphasized the nation’s culture of hospitality, confirming the CAF leader will be received warmly.
In a video message, Fall stated: “Senegal is the land of Teranga, and Teranga means welcome. We welcome all Africans here in Senegal.” The talks are viewed as a vital turning point for continental unity.
