CAF has officially dismissed Morocco’s protest and confirmed Senegal as AFCON champions while imposing massive fines and suspensions on both nations following a chaotic final.
CAF has rejected Morocco’s formal protest to strip Senegal of the Africa Cup of Nations title, officially confirming the Teranga Lions as champions.
However, the victory carries a heavy price, as the Senegal Football Federation faces $615,000 in total fines.
Coach Pape Thiaw received a five-match suspension and a $100,000 fine for bringing the game into disrepute during the high-tension continental finale.
The Moroccan Football Federation was also penalized, incurring $315,000 in fines for laser use and inappropriate ball boy behavior.
Key defender Achraf Hakimi received a two-match ban, with one game suspended, while Ismael Saibari was sidelined for three matches and fined $100,000 for unsporting conduct.
Despite the disciplinary crackdown, CAF’s ruling ensures the trophy remains in Dakar, ending all legal disputes.
