Pep Guardiola has praised January signing Marc Guehi for choosing Manchester City over a free transfer to Liverpool, highlighting the defender’s character and composure during a crucial defensive injury crisis.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed his delight after securing Marc Guehi in a £20m January deal, thwarting Liverpool’s plans to sign the defender for free this summer.
Amid a defensive crisis involving injuries to John Stones and Ruben Dias, City moved swiftly to recruit the 25-year-old.
Guardiola emphasized that Guehi’s decision to join the Premier League champions was driven by personal conviction.
”I always say when I speak to the players, ‘sleep on it with your pillow’ for as many nights as you want,” Guardiola revealed regarding the transfer talks.
The City boss insisted he only wants players who are fully committed to the club’s vision, stating: “You have to be convinced. Don’t come here if you don’t feel it.” Guehi is now set for a key role.
