Carragher and Neville weigh in on “too early” Rosenior appointment at Chelsea

Pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have questioned Chelsea’s move to appoint Liam Rosenior as Enzo Maresca’s successor, suggesting the young manager lacks the experience necessary to lead the club back to major trophies.

Chelsea are reportedly on the verge of appointing Strasbourg head coach Liam Rosenior as their new manager following the departure of Enzo Maresca.

Maresca left the club last week amid escalating tensions with the hierarchy, ending a brief tenure marked by friction over internal direction.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Rosenior arrived in London on Sunday for final interviews, with an official announcement expected next week to fill the vacancy at Stamford Bridge.

Pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have expressed significant skepticism regarding the potential appointment.

Carragher argued that the role “is probably going to come too early” for the former Hull City boss, noting that Chelsea fans are accustomed to elite, trophy-winning managers like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

He stated, “I don’t think it’s an appointment that is going to put Chelsea on to win a Premier League title or a Champions League trophy.”

Gary Neville echoed these concerns, emphasizing that a squad filled with young talent requires an experienced figurehead.

Drawing on the famous “win anything with kids” adage, Neville suggested that Chelsea’s recruitment strategy lacks the necessary maturity in the dugout.

He remarked, “I just think young players need some authority and guidance around them,” questioning whether another relatively inexperienced manager can provide the leadership required to navigate the club’s high-pressure environment.
