Casemiro’s recent standout performances for Brazil, including a goal against Senegal, have sparked claims from Brazilian media about his crucial role and evolved style for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, fueling Manchester United contract discussions.
Manchester United star Casemiro has been lauded by Brazilian media as a “great playmaker” and “main leader” for the national team following a strong display against Senegal, raising further questions about his contract, which is due to expire next summer.
According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United star Casemiro has been lauded in Brazilian media for his “masterclass” performances for the national team, which have led to a “huge World Cup claim” and intensified focus on his contract situation at Old Trafford.
The midfielder, who earns an “eye-watering £350,000-a-week salary,” scored in Brazil’s 2-0 friendly win over Senegal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
This strong form comes as his United contract is due to expire next summer, although the club retains the option to trigger a 12-month extension.
Casemiro’s displays have led news outlets in his home country to rave, suggesting the 33-year-old “has evolved” at a late stage in his career and become the Selecao’s “main leader” ahead of the 2026 World Cup in Canada, the United States and Mexico.
The star, who has collected three goals and one assist in his last four outings for club and country, is now expected to contribute in more areas for his club than he did at Real Madrid.
His new role as a “great playmaker” was highlighted by Folha de Sao Paulo, who stated: “There is no longer any reason to divide the midfield, as was done in Brazil in recent decades, between the number five, number eight and number 10 shirts. They blend together.”
Globo confirmed his starting place, reporting: “Increasingly in sync, Casemiro and Bruno Guimaraes are consolidating themselves as the starting midfield duo for the World Cup.”
Correio Braziliense added: “Casemiro, one of the few remaining players from the last World Cup and the team’s main leader alongside Marquinhos, sealed the result.”
