Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier is expected to be dropped from the France squad in favor of Robin Risser following a string of poor form and the loss of his club starting spot.
Lucas Chevalier’s aspirations to challenge for France’s top goalkeeping spot have stalled after losing his starting role at Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite a high-profile move from Lille, unconvincing performances have seen him replaced by Matvey Safonov.
Le Parisien indicates that Chevalier will miss the upcoming international squad, as “the Russian doesn’t look like being dislodged any time soon,” leaving the Frenchman’s World Cup hopes in jeopardy.
With Chevalier sidelined, France coach Didier Deschamps is reportedly considering Jean Butez of Como or RC Lens’ Robin Risser for the third goalkeeper slot.
Risser currently holds a slight advantage, having previously trained with the senior setup.
Even though PSG manager “Luis Enrique insists that there is no clear hierarchy,” Chevalier’s lack of playing time appears to have effectively settled his immediate international fate.
