Chiesa reveals Liverpool’s silent dressing room after Brentford defeat

Federico Chiesa says Liverpool’s silent dressing room after their defeat to Brentford reflects a shared determination among players to turn their poor form around.

Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa has revealed that “no one was speaking” in the Reds’ dressing room after their 2-0 defeat to Brentford on Saturday, describing the silence as a positive sign of reflection and hunger for change.

Arne Slot’s side have now lost five of their last six games and face Crystal Palace tonight in the Carabao Cup, having already been beaten twice by the Eagles this season.

“No one was speaking. Because afterwards everyone knows,” said Chiesa. “Sometimes you don’t have to speak about the situation. You know what’s going on. So no one spoke because I think we have to think about what we can do better.”

The Italian added that silence showed the players’ desire to respond, saying, “It was good that after the game we didn’t talk because it’s a sign that everyone wants to change.”

Chiesa, who joined Liverpool from Juventus for £10 million last year, admitted he struggled physically and mentally in his first season. “Last year I wasn’t fit enough. I wasn’t mentally ready,” he said. “This year, I feel better physically and mentally.”

Slot is expected to rotate his squad against Palace, with goalkeeper Freddie Woodman set for a debut and several academy players likely to feature.
