Clarke Carlisle: Walker and Burnley defence promise survival

Former Burnley defender Clarke Carlisle believes Kyle Walker’s shrewd signing and the team’s early defensive strength are strong indicators for Burnley’s Premier League survival.

Speaking to Tribalfootball.com, Carlisle said: “He’s spent a decade or more at Manchester City and you can be of the greatest pedigree… coming to Turf Moor is a very different proposition.” He praised Walker’s influence while warning that age could affect his trademark pace, adding: “His pace has corrected errors, and now he’s getting to an age where it isn’t as consistent.”

Despite Burnley sitting in the bottom three, Carlisle has been encouraged by their defensive displays under Scott Parker. “The first three or four games at least showed that Burnley still have that defensive solidity to make the transition,” he said.
