Wrexham has officially announced the acquisition of experienced defender Conor Coady from Leicester City, signaling their intent to strengthen their squad for the upcoming Championship season.
Coady, aged 32, has committed to a two-year deal at the Racecourse Ground. This contract secures his place with the Welsh club until the conclusion of the 2026-27 season. The agreement includes an option for an extension, potentially prolonging his stay.
Throughout his career, Coady boasts an impressive record, having participated in 485 senior matches. His experience includes almost 200 appearances in the Premier League, coupled with 10 caps for the England national team.
This signing is part of an active recruitment period for Wrexham. The club, under the ownership of Hollywood figures Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, is preparing for their Championship campaign following a remarkable climb through the leagues with three successive promotions. Coady marks the seventh addition to the squad this summer.
Having previously played for Liverpool, Wolves, and Everton, Coady is expected to play a crucial role in Wrexham’s efforts in the Championship. This season marks the club’s return to the second tier of English football for the first time since the 1981-82 season.
"I'm over the moon. It's a special day, I'll be honest," Coady expressed.
"We've all seen what the club has done over the past few years and for me to join is really special, and I can't wait to meet the boys and get started."
Wrexham’s manager, Phil Parkinson, commented: "We’re delighted to welcome Conor to the club. He’s a player who has experience in the Premier League and Championship and will be a great addition to the squad."
Coady might debut for Wrexham in their match against Southampton on the Championship season's opening day.
However, according to Opta's supercomputer, Wrexham faces a 20.2% chance of being immediately relegated back to the third tier.
