Jobe Bellingham made his first goal contribution for Borussia Dortmund as Felix Nmecha struck twice in a thrilling 4-2 win over Copenhagen in the Champions League.
The 19-year-old midfielder, who joined from Sunderland in a £27 million summer move, has struggled for regular Bundesliga minutes but impressed in his second consecutive European start. Bellingham’s clever pass in the 20th minute set up Nmecha, who unleashed a fierce shot from the edge of the box to give Dortmund the lead.
Copenhagen equalised in bizarre fashion when goalkeeper Gregor Kobel’s save from a corner rebounded off Ramy Bensebaini’s clearance and deflected into the net off team-mate Waldemar Anton.
Bensebaini made amends just after the hour mark, confidently converting a penalty after Serhou Guirassy was fouled in the area. Nmecha then grabbed his second of the night in the 76th minute when his strike took a heavy deflection, wrong-footing Copenhagen goalkeeper Dominik Kotarski.
Bellingham pushed hard for his first Dortmund goal, but it was ex-Wolves forward Fabio Silva who sealed the win late on with a well-placed finish. Viktor Dadason added a consolation header for Copenhagen in the closing stages.
The result lifts Dortmund to seven points after three matches, maintaining their unbeaten run in Group G. Edin Terzić’s side now face a crucial trip to Manchester City on November 5.
Copenhagen, meanwhile, remain winless in the group following earlier results against Bayer Leverkusen and Qarabag.
