Court rejects Mbappé’s second bid to freeze PSG accounts

Kylian Mbappé’s attempt to seize approximately €55 million from Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) accounts has been rejected for a second time, with the Paris Court of Appeal ruling against the forward on December 9.

Mbappé sought the funds to cover alleged unpaid bonuses and wages for the period of April through June 2024, amounts which PSG argues were waived by the player ahead of his high-profile free transfer to Real Madrid.

The French court not only threw out Mbappé’s appeal but also ordered him to bear the legal costs of the proceedings.

Furthermore, the court issued a civil fine of €3,000, intended to compensate PSG for their unrecoverable costs.

PSG had initially argued that Mbappé should pay the maximum penalty of €10,000 for instigating an “abusive and dilatory procedure.”

This latest ruling upholds a previous decision made in May by the Tribunal Judicial de Paris, which had overturned an initial April court order that allowed Mbappé to freeze the club’s accounts.

Reacting to the decision, PSG’s lawyer, Renaud Semerdjian, issued a strong statement defending the club’s position and values.”

For the second time, the courts have confirmed once again the lack of merit in Mr. Mbappé’s claims regarding the seizures he had made on the PSG’s accounts in April,” said Semerdjian.

He went on to frame the dispute as a matter of integrity.

“Fundamentally, this entire dispute is simply a matter of good faith, honesty, upholding values and respect for the Parisian institution and its supporters.

In the face of constant attacks from the player, Paris Saint-Germain continues to vigorously defend its rights.”

Semerdjian concluded by emphasizing the club’s focus on its collective success:

“At the same time, Paris Saint-Germain continues to build on the most successful season in its history, based on solidarity, hard work, team spirit and the precedence of the club over any individual.’

The ruling on December 9 marks the end of Mbappé’s second legal attempt to recoup the disputed funds via account seizure, following the overturning of the original freezing order earlier this year.
