Frank Lampard has cemented his place in Coventry City’s history books after guiding the Sky Blues to a record-breaking start to their Championship campaign.
According to reporting, the former Chelsea legend’s side remains the only unbeaten professional team in English football after 11 league matches.
Under Lampard, Coventry has secured 25 points from seven wins and four draws, marking the club’s best-ever start to a league campaign. Beyond their impressive unbeaten run, the team is also setting a remarkable goal-scoring pace, netting a staggering 31 goals in those 11 games.
This prolific output gives Coventry the best goals-per-game ratio in the second tier for more than 100 years. TalkSPORT sources indicate that a team hasn’t been this prolific in the second tier since Manchester City achieved the feat in 1903.
If Coventry maintains their current ratio over the full season, they are on course to smash the second-tier record by scoring 130 goals.
The impressive form follows Lampard’s initial success in taking the team from 17th place to a play-off semi-final last season. The manager remains grounded despite the frenzy surrounding the team’s form:
“I thought we played well… People will get excited, and that ramps up when you win games but our job is to stay on it and stay diligent.”
The Sky Blues, who lead the division by four points, next face Watford as they attempt to continue their historic charge towards a long-awaited Premier League return.
