Cristiano Ronaldo targets 1,000-goal milestone, says he’s not done yet at 40

Cristiano Ronaldo says he still has the energy and passion to compete at the top level despite turning 40. The Al Nassr forward, who holds the record for most men’s international goals with 141 for Portugal, said he remains motivated to achieve more even as his family urges him to retire.

“People, especially my family, say: ‘It’s time for you to stop. You’ve done everything. Why do you want to score a thousand goals?’ But I don’t think so,” Ronaldo told Canal 11. “I’m still producing good things, helping my club and the national team.”

Ronaldo, who has scored five goals in six games this season, received the Prestige Award at the Portugal Football Globes on Tuesday. “It’s not an end-of-career award,” he said. “I still have a passion for competing with younger players.”

He recently signed a contract extension with Al Nassr until 2027 and remains focused on leading Portugal to the 2026 World Cup.
