The Referees’ Technical Committee is reportedly set to acknowledge a mistake in failing to award Real Madrid a late penalty after VAR officials missed seeing Kylian Mbappé’s head injury.
The Referees’ Technical Committee (CTA) is expected to confirm a VAR error during Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Girona.
In the 89th minute, Kylian Mbappé was struck by an elbow, resulting in a deep gash and heavy bleeding. Despite the impact, officials failed to award a penalty.
Early indications suggest the CTA review will acknowledge that a foul should have been signaled.
Controversy has deepened following reports that VAR officials were unaware Mbappé was bleeding until after the match.
Due to limited camera angles, the officials reportedly missed the visual evidence of the injury.
According to sources, “The VAR referees in Real Madrid vs Girona did not see Mbappe bleeding when they were reviewing the play. They found out about it after the match on social media.”
