Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has suggested that Republic of Ireland striker Evan Ferguson should consider a move to the Championship, potentially with Wrexham, to rebuild his confidence following a difficult period at Roma.
Despite a recent resurgence in Italy, Ferguson’s loan future remains uncertain as Roma looks to bolster its attacking options this January, leading Murphy to argue that a step down in level could be the catalyst for the youngster to become a “main man” again.
Murphy told Boyle Sports that while the Welsh club has a crowded front line, “that type of challenge, a team that wants to get promoted, a team that plays good football, a team that plays to your strengths, could work.”
Highlighting the mental toll of injuries, Murphy noted that “playing regular football and scoring goals is the key to getting your confidence back,” questioning whether Ferguson will receive the necessary minutes at Roma to fully recapture the form that saw him burst onto the Premier League scene.
