David Moyes has called for the Premier League to explain why Chelsea received a suspended transfer ban and fine for historical financial breaches rather than the points deductions recently imposed on other clubs.
Everton boss David Moyes has questioned the “reasoning” behind Chelsea escaping a points deduction for historical financial reporting breaches.
Chelsea were fined £10million and handed a suspended transfer ban on March 16 for incomplete payments made during Roman Abramovich’s ownership.
Moyes, whose Everton side suffered two points deductions last season for sustainability breaches, demanded a clearer explanation of the disparity in punishments ahead of Sunday’s clash.
The Scotsman argued that fans deserve to understand why a financial penalty was deemed sufficient compared to the “pain” of losing league points.
“What would you rather have, a £10m fine or a 10 point deduction?” Moyes asked during Friday’s press conference.
While the Premier League cited Chelsea’s self-reporting as a mitigating factor, Moyes insisted that more transparency is needed regarding the long-term impact of such fines.
