Dayot Upamecano’s improved concentration a boost for Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano attributes his current strong form and reduced lapses in concentration to newfound maturity and better emotional control.

According to a report from Bavarian Football Works, Dayot Upamecano admits that past criticisms about occasional errors or lapses of focus were valid — but argues that maturity has fundamentally changed his approach on the field.

“Today, there’s more maturity in my game. I’m a centre-back, so I have to be more vocal. The lapses in concentration I experienced in the past are behind me. I feel I have better control of my emotions. It’s showing match after match.” Upamecano said in an interview with L’Equipe (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

He stressed that not every duel is worth contesting — insisting that sometimes restraint is the wiser choice: “Sometimes there are duels that aren’t worth taking. Why dive in? Risk getting a card? I try to control myself.”

Observers note a clear reduction in such mistakes this season — a change that coincides with the arrival of partner defenders like Jonathan Tah, who shares vocal and organisational responsibilities in defence.

For many supporters, this current spell represents the most consistent and mature form of Upamecano’s career.
