Spurs denied all three points by late Manchester United sucker punch
Tottenham saw their impressive winning streak against Manchester United snapped on Saturday. Spurs had beaten the Red Devils four times across all competitions last season, including a decisive victory in the Europa League final, and they went into the lunchtime kick-off protecting a seven-game unbeaten run in this fixture.
The match began with a crucial breakthrough for the visitors. Bryan Mbeumo, the Premier League Player of the Month for October, broke the deadlock with a fine header, netting Manchester United’s first league goal against Spurs in three meetings.
Tottenham responded strongly. Goals from Mathys Tel and Richarlison put the home side firmly on course to beat Man United for what looked like a fifth time in a row.
However, the late drama denied Spurs the victory. United center-back Matthijs de Ligt rose high to equalize with a towering header, earning the visitors a crucial point and bringing an end to Tottenham’s winning dominance in this rivalry.
