The ongoing feud between Mohamed Salah and Jamie Carragher drew former teammate Dejan Lovren to Salah’s defense, even as Salah broke Wayne Rooney’s goal contributions record.
The public battle between Mohamed Salah and Jamie Carragher has escalated following Salah’s recent explosive comments regarding his treatment at Anfield.
Carragher, a Sky Sports pundit, criticized Salah’s defensive work in response, saying: “When you talk about throwing people under the bus, he’s thrown the Liverpool right-back under the bus the last eight years… But we accept it because he’s a superstar.”
Former Liverpool player Dejan Lovren has since entered the debate, taking a shot at Carragher to defend his ex-teammate.
Lovren quoted Salah’s post-match comments with a jibe: “Not good enough Mo. You need to cover your full back.”
Midfielder Curtis Jones also backed Salah, stating: “Mo’s his own man, he’s got his own opinions. And, you know, I don’t think his intentions were to affect the team… it was just a personal thing.”
The controversy coincided with Salah’s on-pitch achievement, where he broke Wayne Rooney’s record for most goals and assists for a single Premier League club (277 contributions).
Carragher, in a column, analyzed the situation, concluding: “If Mohamed Salah’s intention with his grumble… was to weaken [Arne] Slot, he must now concede that his misguided actions have had the opposite effect.”
