The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Benin Republic begin matchday three of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday. Benin returns to the continental tournament after missing the 2021 and 2023 editions, with their last appearance in 2019 when they reached the quarter-finals. DR Congo, fourth-place finishers at the previous AFCON in Ivory Coast, aim to improve their performance and secure a medal in Morocco.
Benin coach Gernot Rohr expressed pride in his team’s participation, saying, “We are proud to be at this AFCON — players and staff alike. The first step is to play a good match against DR Congo. Then we will push as far as we can, why not all the way to January 18?” DR Congo’s Sébastien Desabre downplayed favorite status, noting only Simon Banza would miss the match.
Tournament favorites Senegal face Botswana at Tangier Grand Stadium, while three-time champions Nigeria meet Tanzania at Fes Stadium. Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly said, “We are very excited, we have a lot to prove on the pitch. We know it will be very difficult, with a lot of adversity, but we are ready.” Tanzania coach Miguel Gamondi acknowledged the challenge, admitting a victory over Nigeria would feel like winning AFCON.
Tunisia and Uganda close matchday three at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. Uganda’s preparation was disrupted by a payment dispute that led players to boycott their first training session. Tunisia coach Samy Trabelsi emphasized his team’s readiness, stating his players are confident and focused. Uganda’s Paul Put praised the tournament organization and expressed confidence in his strengthening squad.
