Dwight Yorke dismisses Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes

Dwight Yorke believes Arsenal will fail again in their Premier League title bid, tipping Manchester City for the crown due to their experience.

Manchester United icon Dwight Yorke does not fancy Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season, saying they will ‘do what Arsenal do again.’

Mikel Arteta’s side currently sits at the top of the table with eight wins and only one defeat from their 11 league matches, giving them an early four-point lead over second-placed Manchester City.

According to a report from Snabbare, the former striker believes the Gunners will ultimately fail to secure the trophy they last won in 2004, having finished second in each of the last three seasons.

Yorke stated: ‘I just think Arsenal will do what Arsenal do again. I have a funny feeling that somehow they won’t get it over the line.’ He added that he believes Manchester City will eventually beat Arsenal to the trophy, saying: ‘I think Man City just have that know-how.’

Yorke suggested Arsenal’s multiple commitments could be a factor, noting: ‘It depends on the competitions they are in too. I’m sure Mikel Arteta is going to prioritise everything. He’s trying to win it all but you’ve got to win your domestic league.’

In contrast, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola had talked up Arsenal’s chances earlier this month (before they drew 2-2 at Sunderland), saying:

‘If they continue this way—they play games, they don’t concede goals, not even clear chances, and they win and win—oh my God, it will be almost impossible [to catch Arsenal], but always you expect you will be better and they can drop points.’

Arsenal has conceded just five Premier League goals so far this season.
