Dyche dismisses United tactics story as ‘clickbait’

Forest manager Sean Dyche criticised media reports about tactics at Manchester United as “clickbait” ahead of their upcoming meeting.

Sean Dyche, manager of Nottingham Forest, dismissed recent claims about tactics at Manchester United as misleading and sensational ahead of the two clubs’ clash. The story in question suggested Dyche had slammed United’s style of play and claimed he would have achieved more wins than Rúben Amorim by implementing a 4-4-2 formation while in charge of United.

Dyche said, “I didn’t question him as a person. I’d never do that with managers. … It’s unfortunate nowadays for us, whether you’re a pundit or a manager, clickbait kills everything, it changed the whole story.”

He emphasised that he had in fact supported Amorim having time to develop his work, saying: “I equally said, I want managers to be given time … I actually said half a season to continue the work he was doing. But unfortunately, that doesn’t make the story.”

Meanwhile, Amorim acknowledged the comment with light humour: “Maybe it’s true if we play 4-4-2 we would win more games.”

The meeting comes as United sit in sixth place in the Premier League, while Forest find themselves in the relegation zone with just five points from nine games since Dyche’s appointment on October 21 — their third manager this season.
