Eberechi Eze announced his arrival at Arsenal with a stunning hat-trick, leading Mikel Arteta’s side to a dominant 4-1 victory over a lackluster Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby.
Eberechi Eze delivered a historic performance in the North London Derby, scoring a hat-trick to secure a decisive victory for Arsenal and propel the club six points clear in the Premier League title race.
According to a report from The Independent, Eberechi Eze launched himself as an Arsenal player on Sunday afternoon, scoring a hat-trick that was only the fourth in the history of the fixture and the first since 1978, as the Gunners defeated Tottenham 4-1 at the Emirates.
The display held added significance because Eze was “so close to signing for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer,” making the demolition of his former potential suitors particularly potent.
Eze’s influence was such that Tottenham, who sat deep with a defensive approach, “could barely get near him in this 4-1 defeat.”
The opening goal, however, came from Leandro Trossard’s clever finish, following a moment of “delightful ingenuity” from Mikel Merino, who delivered an “artistic little clipped pass.”
Eze then took charge, immediately scoring Arsenal’s second and his first, before completing his treble with a spectacular effort.
His third strike was described as an exquisite curve into the top corner, following a “coruscating break” that left Destiny Udogie careering off in the wrong direction.
The victory was so comprehensive that some within the club were rolling their eyes at Spurs’ approach, while the Arsenal faithful gleefully sang, “Are you Tottenham in disguise.”
Tottenham’s only reply came from a speculative consolation strike by Richarlison, scoring with an “admittedly spectacular speculative strike from 40 yards.”
The result felt significant, especially with Manchester City dropping points elsewhere, underlining that “It’s Arsenal who have Eze, though, and he has shown exactly why. It might yet lead to the title itself.”
