The Football Association has launched an investigation into Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez after evidence emerged that he has served as a brand ambassador for Argentine betting firm Bplay in apparent violation of English football’s strict gambling regulations.
The Football Association is investigating Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez following allegations he promoted the Argentine betting platform Bplay.
Reports indicate Martínez has served as a brand ambassador for over 18 months, appearing in advertisements and social media campaigns alongside his brother.
FA rules state, “an individual participant, when acting in a personal capacity, shall not be permitted to advertise or promote any betting activity.”
Disciplinary action could be severe if the 33-year-old is found in breach of Rule E8, which prohibits players from endorsing gambling services connected to competitions they participate in.
Because Bplay offers odds on the Premier League and Europa League, Martínez’s involvement creates a direct conflict.
Past precedents suggest the goalkeeper could face a heavy fine or suspension, potentially impacting Villa’s push for European qualification.
