The Football Association has launched a formal investigation into Enfield Town goalkeeper Joe Wright after viral footage captured him punching a supporter during a heated clash against Chelmsford City.
The FA is investigating a shocking altercation involving Enfield Town goalkeeper Joe Wright, who was filmed punching a rival fan on Friday.
The incident occurred following an exchange with Chelmsford City supporters, during which a missile was allegedly thrown at the player.
Chelmsford City’s social media noted, “The game resumes, we have video evidence of Joe Wright punching a fan though,” following a seven-minute delay.
Despite the violence, Wright was not sent off as officials missed the strike. Security later escorted the goalkeeper through the tunnel after he completed the match.
Enfield Town reported that the game stopped in “unsavoury circumstances” following the provocation.
Governing bodies are now examining the referee’s report and video evidence seen by over 500,000 users to determine the disciplinary repercussions for the goalkeeper.
