Fan handed three-year football ban for racially abusing Premier League star

A 25-year-old man from Barrow, Harry Brown, has been issued a three-year football banning order and sentenced to 150 hours of unpaid work after admitting to racially abusing Fulham forward Rodrigo Muniz on social media.

The offenses occurred on two separate occasions following matches against Liverpool in December 2024 and April 2025, leading to Brown’s conviction at North Cumbria Magistrates’ Court for malicious communications.

Following the sentencing, Chief Inspector Kim Brown of the Cumbria Constabulary emphasized the force’s commitment to tackling online harassment, stating,

“Hate crime, in person or online, is never acceptable and you cannot hide behind a social media profile to post these despicable comments.”

The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Premier League and the UK Football Policing Unit, with Inspector Brown adding, “With the support of Mr Muniz, we have pursued this case to hold Brown accountable for his actions.”
