FIFA defends World Cup prices after England fan complaints

FIFA on Friday defended its ticketing policy for the 2026 World Cup after criticism from England fans over what they described as “astonishing” prices.

Tickets became available this week through a draw, with FIFA confirming group stage tickets start at $60. However, fan representatives argue these are extremely scarce, and estimates suggest following England to the final on the cheapest category would cost at least £2,364 ($3,180).

Thomas Concannon of the England Fans’ Embassy said: “These prices are astonishing — $2,000 for the cheapest final ticket is unacceptable.” He added the costs, combined with travel and accommodation, would make it “the most expensive World Cup for match-going fans we’ve ever seen.”

FIFA said the pricing model reflected “market practice” in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, where the tournament will be staged. It added that revenue is reinvested into global football development, and ticket resale would be tightly regulated through its official platform.
