FIFA fines Israel and rejects Iran’s World Cup venue appeal

FIFA has imposed a 150,000 Swiss franc fine on the Israel Football Association for anti-discrimination breaches while simultaneously rejecting requests from Iran to relocate its 2026 World Cup matches from the United States to Mexico.

FIFA has fined the Israel Football Association 150,000 Swiss francs for “discrimination and racist abuse” and “tolerance of politicized messaging.”

However, the governing body dismissed a Palestinian petition to suspend Israel over clubs located in West Bank settlements, labeling the territory’s status a “highly complex matter.”

FIFA judges noted they “cannot remain indifferent to the broader human context” while demanding reforms to prevent future incidents.

Meanwhile, President Gianni Infantino rejected Iranian pleas to move their World Cup fixtures from the U.S. to Mexico following recent military tensions.

Despite Iran’s concerns regarding travel to the U.S., Infantino insisted the tournament “go ahead as scheduled.”

He emphasized that “FIFA can’t solve geopolitical conflicts,” reaffirming the organization’s commitment to the established December draw and the unifying power of global football.
