Liverpool icon Robbie Fowler voiced concerns over Arne Slot’s new signings, reiterating his past criticism of Darwin Nunez, as the club struggles with recent poor form and slides down the Premier League table.
According to a report from The Mirror, Liverpool icon Robbie Fowler has shared concerns regarding the quality of some recent signings within Arne Slot’s squad, following a troubling run of form that has seen the reigning Premier League champions suffer defeat in five of their last six league fixtures.
Despite the club being initially praised for transfer business that included smashing their record twice to land Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, alongside the “astute moves” for Jeremie Frimpong and Mlos Kerkez, Slot’s team currently “languishes in eighth place.”
Fowler has been asked whether he holds a similar opinion about any of the current summer arrivals as he did for Darwin Nunez last season, who he previously claimed was “not a Liverpool player.”
The former forward admitted he does have concerns about some players, stating: “I do. When you’re analysing footballers, and you can take this with a pinch of salt, but I think a lot of coaches and managers now can probably see within the first training session or the first game, how a player adapts…”
Reiterating his past critique of Nunez, Fowler added: “So for me, the more I see him, the more I think he’s not a Liverpool player.
Now, people might have a go at me for saying this: you know, he works hard; you’re not signing a player because he works hard because that should be a prerequisite anyway.”
While Fowler “refrained from identifying which summer arrivals he would compare to Nunez,” he offered a verdict on two defenders.
He noted that “It’s been difficult for Jeremie Frimpong because everyone is thinking he’s going to come in and replace Trent,” while suggesting Kerkez has potential but questioning if he is ready now.
Fowler also maintains that the Reds have “failed to properly replace Fabinho in defensive midfield” since the Brazilian was sold two years ago.
