Galatasaray confirmed striker Victor Osimhen sustained a moderate hamstring strain with bleeding while playing for Nigeria in a World Cup playoff.
According to a report from All Nigeria Soccer, Turkish club Galatasaray have revealed the precise nature of Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen’s injury, which occurred during their 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against DR Congo.
The injury was diagnosed as a moderate strain with bleeding in the left posterior muscle, the club confirmed in a statement.
Osimhen, who started the game, “was substituted at the beginning of the second half after appearing to clutch his hamstring late in the first half,” All Nigeria Soccer adds.
He subsequently returned to Istanbul, where he underwent an MRI scan at Acıbadem Hospital to evaluate the severity of the damage.
The club says treatment has begun immediately, though they “did not provide a timeline for his recovery.”
The 26-year-old striker, in strong form for Galatasaray this season, has scored nine goals in 12 appearances across all competitions.
The injury also comes at an inopportune moment off the pitch: Osimhen is expected to miss the upcoming CAF Awards, where he is shortlisted for Player of the Year alongside Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi.
The setback marks a significant blow both for his club side and his international profile.
