German media has astonishingly blamed Mohamed Salah for Florian Wirtz’s difficult start at Liverpool, claiming Salah’s lack of assists to new signings like Wirtz is hindering the team, a view Liverpool.com strongly refutes.
Mohamed Salah has been sensationally accused of having a “negative impact” on new Liverpool teammate Florian Wirtz, with German media suggesting the Egyptian forward is actively impeding the record-breaking transfer’s start at Anfield.
According to a report from Liverpool.com, the bizarre claim emerged after Wirtz, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen in a record-breaking transfer over the summer, has yet to score and has registered only three assists in his 16 appearances for the club so far this season.
Both players are noted to have “struggled during the first few months of the season,” failing to hit the heights of the previous year’s title triumph.
Sport Bild placed the blame squarely on Salah, suggesting his “failure to assist Wirtz, and Liverpool’s other new arrivals, has been the biggest factor in Liverpool’s struggles.”
The German outlet wrote in its Wednesday edition: “It’s noticeable that he’s overlooked Wirtz and hasn’t made any of the other summer signings, who together cost around half a billion euros, shine.”
The publication noted that Salah has provided only “three assists this season, all of which led to goals, all for players who have been with the club longer.”
The takedown concluded with the assessment: “Salah is increasingly becoming a major problem for Liverpool and Wirtz.”
Sport Bild labeled Salah “the king of the champions, seemingly blocking their successful new beginning,” and the future of Wirtz, his “successor as the attacking leader.”
The report concluded by questioning: “The question is, who will dethrone Salah. The club, the coach, or his team-mates? It seems quite possible that Salah will move to Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2026.”
