Germany routed Slovakia 6-0 in Leipzig, securing their 2026 World Cup berth with goals from Woltemade, Gnabry, Sane, Baku, and debutant Ouedraogo, capping off an emphatic performance led by Florian Wirtz.
Germany emphatically secured their spot at the upcoming World Cup by defeating Slovakia 6-0 in Leipzig, concluding what the team has considered an underwhelming qualifying campaign in style.
According to a report from Bulinews, the hosts started quickly, with Florian Wirtz at the heart of possession. Germany took the lead after 19 minutes when captain Joshua Kimmich delivered a cross from a Wirtz corner, which was headed home by Nick Woltemade for his third goal in two matches.
Serge Gnabry soon doubled the lead after a “beautiful team move” allowed him to go one-on-one against Martin Dubravka and “powered home with relative ease.” Leroy Sane added the third, meeting a “delicious 50-yard ball from Wirtz” before the break.
After a slower start to the second half, substitute Ridle Baku added a “simply fantastic fifth” goal.
The rout was completed in the 79th minute when RB Leipzig youngster Assan Ouedraogo came on as a substitute and scored with a “lovely guided finish” for his first goal for the senior team, just “a minute and 42 seconds” into his debut.
Slovakia, condemned to the play-offs, was left hoping for a “backdoor route” to the competition. The convincing victory sparked a “chorus of Völlin Losgelöst” celebration from the crowd.
