Gurpreet Singh Rehal, a key figure in Panjab Warriors’ takeover of Morecambe FC, has been sanctioned by the UK government. Accused of recruiting and funding proscribed militant groups, his UK assets are frozen, and he is banned as a company director. Morecambe and Panjab Warriors have since distanced themselves from Rehal.
The club’s takeover, finalized in August, was initially celebrated by fans hoping to save the team from dissolution. Rehal, introduced as head of communications, made strong claims of transparency. The Independent Football Regulator is now urgently investigating the matter.
