Pep Guardiola lauded Erling Haaland’s remarkable scoring record, calling it ‘insane’ after he reached 100 Premier League goals in just 111 games.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has promised his side will fight rivals Arsenal “until the bitter end” for the Premier League title, even after his team secured a dramatic victory over Fulham, according to a report from The Mirror.
City striker Erling Haaland scored his 100th Premier League goal in a record-breaking 111 games in a classic at Craven Cottage. The result moved City within two points of leaders Arsenal.
Guardiola hailed his striker’s achievement, stating: “When Erling arrived, if you had told me he would score 100 goals in 111 games, I would say: ‘Are you sure?’ The numbers are insane. Insane. Erling is one of the best, his numbers are incredible and what he has done is amazing.”
The match, which ended 5-4 after Fulham staged a sensational fight back from 1-5 down, left Guardiola unable to relax.
He joked that the drama would make him lose his hair and admitted: “Enjoy it? Impossible. 5-1 yeah, but 5-4, I was watching the clock more than the game.”
Despite the close result, Guardiola is confident in the long run, noting: “Arsenal are so strong and so solid.
We have to put in our mindset that it will be difficult but at the same time the Premier League is so long.” He also referenced City’s history of title success:
“We won six Premier Leagues, four or five when we were in January or February we were behind.” He concluded that the winner is “the team who grow during the months and this is what we try to do.”
