Hannibal Mejbri banned, fined for spitting at Leeds fans

Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri received a four-match ban and a £15,000 fine after admitting an FA misconduct charge for spitting in the direction of Leeds United supporters during an October Premier League match.

Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has been handed a four-match suspension and a £15,000 fine by an independent Regulatory Commission after admitting a misconduct charge.

The incident occurred in October during Burnley’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Leeds United, where Mejbri, on loan from Manchester United, spat in the direction of visiting Leeds supporters.

An FA statement noted, “It was alleged that the player acted in breach of the laws of the game… by spitting at or in the direction of Leeds United supporters.”

The 22-year-old Tunisia international accepted the charge, meaning he will be unavailable for Burnley’s next four Premier League fixtures against Newcastle, Fulham, Bournemouth, and Everton.

The sanction ensures that Mejbri will not be eligible to return to the pitch until Burnley’s home match against Newcastle United on December 30.
